Elective Surgery – 32 surgical beds (Ward A)
Casey Hospital offers a wide range of elective surgery services: general surgery, vascular, ENT, urology, gynaecology, plastics, breast, orthopeadic and paediatric surgery.  Elective surgery at Casey is supported by pre-admission and post-operative clinics.  Patients for elective surgery are triaged through the central Southern Health waiting list register and allocated to site based on surgical requirements and wait list criteria.

Outpatient Clinics
Pre admission and post operative are the only outpatient clinics in operation at Casey Hospital. Elective surgery admissions are taken from the collective Southern Health elective surgery list.  Patients are allocated to site depending on procedures carried out at each site.  All Southern Health Outpatient Clinics can be found here http://www.southernhealth.org.au/gp/outpatients.htm

Mental Health – 25 beds (Ward E)
Casey provides in-patient and community Mental Health services for adults, children and adolescents.  Referral to Casey will be determined by the Southern Health central Psychiatric Triage Service who will determine site location based on the clients age, geographical region and diagnosis.  Preference will always be given to the patients ‘home’ hospital, however, this is subject to availability of beds.

Southern Health Psychiatric Triage Service for ages 0-64  (24 hours / 7 days) 1300 369 012

GPs are requested to phone the central triage number for referrals.  Peek periods do occur and wait times may be inconvenient; GPs are able to leave a message if this occurs and should be reassured that the Triage service will return the call as soon as possible.

For ages 65+ phone Kingston 9265 1750 or Dandenong 9709 7100 during business hours only, after hours crisis response is provided by the Psychiatric Triage Service.

Maternity Services – 23 Obstetric beds (Ward G)
Low risk maternity services supported by obstetricians, general practitioners and/or midwives are provided at Casey Hospital.  Simplified access to Maternity services across Southern Health sites is managed by the central intake service:  03 9594 2229

The varying Southern Health sites cater for differing needs and levels of care.  Women will be offered the place that best suits their clinical needs and meets their preferences wherever possible.  GPs are required to complete a Booking Appraisal Form which is a screening tool to assess obstetric risk and to triage women to deliver at the most appropriate site.

GPs are requested to fax a booking referral along with the completed appraisal form to fax 9594 6298. Booking appraisal forms can be found here: http://www.southernhealth.org.au/gp/maternity.htm

All referrals are acknowledged by return fax, and women will be contacted by the booking service to discuss options and schedule a visit at the site where a booking is offered.  It is essential women attend this booking appointment in order to maintain their Southern Health booking.
