MMC Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Equipment

The department has two MRI scanners – a GE Echospeed and a Siemens Symphony. Both are 1.5 Tesla Superconducting Magnets. They each have a tunnel 1.5m long & 60cm in diameter.

GE Echospeed MRI scanner

 

MRI scanners are very noisy. During a scan, there is vibration and a loud noise like a jackhammer. Patients are given earplugs or perhaps headphones to listen to music during their scan. You can hear the sounds produced during a scan by selecting from the box below.
