Nursing and Midwifery

Caring for our community throughout every stage of their life cycle is Southern Health's point of difference. This is demonstrated through our ability to provide services to ante natal women right through to palliative care and aged care residents and consumers.

We offer nurses and midwives the opportunity to work at the cutting edge of modern medicine. We are the only healthcare facility in Victoria providing, all within one facility , a ‘quaternary’ level of care with:
  • adult intensive care
  • neonatal intensive care
  • paediatric surgical services
We have an increasing commitment to clinical practice, leading-edge research which is strengthened through our partnership with Deakin University. Southern Health’s learning and development focus aligns education, research and changing workforce needs, all centred around patient care.

Education

We provide a range of educational activities focused on keeping our clinicians abreast of the dynamic changes in the clinical areas of the organisation. We promote evidence-based practice and competencies of nurses and midwives.

Our commitment is to provide education programs which are innovative and address the needs of nurses and midwives by:
  • allowing staff to refresh current knowledge and skills or gain new knowledge and skills
  • allowing staff to become competent, with up to date evidence based knowledge and skills
  • encouraging staff retention and attract nursing staff in terms of recruitment
