Our Teams

We know our team members come to work with certain expectations. We realise for instance our employees want their work to be recognised. They also want to be kept up to date about what is happening. Flexibility is expected in their work. Here are examples of what we do to meet the needs of our people.

Reward and Recognition

Everyone appreciates being told they are doing a good job. Our reward and recognition scheme allows you to nominate a colleague for their work. Your nomination makes them eligible for quarterly and annual awards as well as letting them know their work has been recognised. Nominations are completed on a form with a detachable certificate that is kept by the person nominated. When you join Southern Health, you will be part of a health service that values and recognises your contribution.

Communication

Communication is another of our commitments to our people. We will keep you informed about our progress and the news you need to know. You will for instance be emailed a newsletter (called inews) every week, keeping you posted on developments at Southern Health while also celebrating our achievements. As well, we offer Chief Executive forums that are held during the year. Team members are invited to hear from our Chief Executive and members of the executive management team as they provide updates about for example projects, financial performance, initiatives and how well we met our goal of providing the best care. At Southern Health we like you to be informed and up to date about what is happening in the workplace.

You can also look forward to our being in touch with you about career and development opportunities, along with news about benefits and services. All this finds its way to you in the HR Advisor which is distributed every week. Every vacancy position over six months duration is advertised, opening up many career possibilities for you.

Work Flexibility

We assist your need for work life balance. Most full time positions include a monthly day off. Many of our vacancies are part time or casual which can help your need for flexibility. Our casual nurse or midwife bank for example allows you to choose shifts that suit your requirements. Another option for those needing additional leave is to take up our 48/52 option which is available for certain positions. By reducing your pay you can receive additional annual leave.

Southern Celebrates

Being proud of the work we do, every October we take a week to celebrate our achievements. Many of our accomplishments are showcased during this time. The week includes the Southern Health ball where staff and partners attend a function.
