Maternity competencies
It is a Southern Health expectation that clinicians do not undertake clinical procedures until appropriately credentialed.
The maternity clinical competencies (new or advanced skills) for midwives and obstetric trainees (level 1-6) should be referred to in conjunction with the individual health professional position description and scope of practice.
Obstetric trainees will be provided with a 'Southern Health Obstetric Competencies package' which outlines all competencies that they are expected to achieve during their traineeship.
The midwifery orientation - competencies and education matrix forms a summary of the competencies and education requirements pertinent to midwives for each specific area of practice. The list is intended as a quick reference guide for use in conjunction with the competency certificates located on the Southern Health intranet.
Each competency certificate outlines the process and requirements that need to be satisfied before competency is recognised.
