Services available to researchers
If you are considering doing research at Southern Health, come and talk to our staff for some advice and guidance on how to achieve your objectives. The Research Directorate staff are able to provide advice, support and encouragement to all staff wishing to undertake research activities at Southern Health. Researchers may seek assistance with:
- Review, approval and monitoring of all human research ethics applications,
- Education and training in writing human ethics applications,
- Advice on the ethical requirements for approval
- Legal and insurance requirements for both sponsored and unsponsored research
- Costing and budgets for projects
Research Support Unit
The principal aim of the Research Support Unit is to enhance Southern Health’s research efforts by identifying, pursuing and attracting research funding through the provision of advice on and administration of research applications. The Research Support Unit will endeavour to collect, monitor and analyse research data to support and increase research capacity and quality.

Southern Health’s Research Directorate has been established at the Monash Medical Centre Clayton as a testament to Southern Health’s commitment to supporting research to improve health care outcomes.
Objectives
The Research Directorate will:

Develop and facilitate the implementation of the Southern Health Research Strategy,

Develop and facilitate research capacity building,

Serve as the central research administration office for all research projects conducted on the Monash Health Research Precinct, and
-
Foster a research culture as an integral and necessary part of clinical practice at Southern Health.
