Clinical Gait Analysis Service

The Centre provides detailed assessment of adults and children with walking difficulties resulting from injury, neurological, neuromuscular or musculo-skeletal conditions.

Our team consists of a rehabilitation specialist, an orthopaedic surgeon, senior physiotherapists, a biomedical engineer and a biomechanist. An assessment may include:

  • medical assessment (if requested or required)
  • physical examination including range of motion and strength testing
  • split-screen video capture
  • three-dimensional motion analysis, providing spatial-temporal, kinematic and kinetic information
  • electromyography providing information about the timing of muscle activity
  • instrumented walkway providing spatial-temporal and centre of pressure data

Assessment results provide information on the most appropriate management of a patient's mobility plus level of progress.
